NEW ORLEANS (AP) — U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, along with other senators, has filed a bill to allow the military to award medals for service during the Cold War.

The Cold War Service Medals Act would authorize the secretaries of the military to award Cold War Service Medals to veterans, who served from Sept. 2, 1945 to Dec. 26, 1991. There is currently no medal for military service during that period.

"For 46 years, the United States and our allies engaged in a worldwide battle against communism," Landrieu said.
